Bear Cubs Make History in Inaugural Beach Volleyball Season

Santa Rosa, CA – The inaugural season of the Santa Rosa Junior College beach volleyball program marked an exciting and historic step forward for Bear Cub Athletics, as the team established itself as a competitive presence within the highly competitive Big 8 Conference and Northern California region. Throughout the spring, the Bear Cubs demonstrated steady growth, resilience, and determination while competing against some of the top beach volleyball programs in the state.

SRJC concluded the season with a 5th-place finish in the Big 8 Conference and an impressive 8th-place finish in the Northern California regional rankings, showcasing the rapid development and success of the program in its first year of competition. The team’s progress throughout the season reflected the commitment and hard work of the student-athletes, who consistently competed with energy, toughness, and a strong team culture.

Leading the way for the Bear Cubs, Lily Comma and Katie Davis earned Big 8 All-Conference honors following an outstanding season competing at the No. 1 position. The duo consistently faced the top pairs in the conference and region while producing key victories throughout the year. Their leadership and competitiveness helped set the tone for the program both on and off the sand.

SRJC was represented by two pairs at the Big 8 Conference Pairs Tournament, as the No. 1 pair of Lily Comma/Katie Davis and the No. 2 pair of Luka Amand/Amber Smart both qualified for postseason competition. Earning a spot in the conference pairs tournament highlighted the depth and competitiveness of the Bear Cubs' lineup across multiple flights.

Comma and Davis continued their postseason run by qualifying for the Northern California Pairs Tournament, representing SRJC among the region’s top beach volleyball pairs. Their qualification marked another milestone achievement for the program and capped off an exceptional season for the duo.

Beyond the results, the 2026 season established a strong foundation for the future of SRJC Beach Volleyball. With the program’s first season now complete, the Bear Cubs gained valuable experience competing at a high level while building a culture centered around competitiveness, growth, and teamwork. The season also reflected the growing excitement and support surrounding beach volleyball at SRJC, setting the stage for continued success in the years ahead.
