Holzhauser & Chase Bring Home State Titles

SRJC Women's Swim & Dive team came home with two individual state titles and a fourth place team finish overall after a stellar performance at the 3C2A State Championship Meet last weekend at East Los Angeles College.

Freshman diver Maia Chase was named the Female State Diver of the Year after winning on the 1M Board with a score of 228.60pts and taking second on the 3M Board as well, 219.05pts. Chase is only the third female diver in SRJC history to win a state title. First year diving Coach Eddie Stevens was also named Women's Diving Coach of the Year as well. 

Freshman swimmer Stanislava Holzhauser (pictured) also came home with an individual title in a grueling, come from behind, 400 IM race swimming a time of 4:34.71 smashing SRJC's school record by over five seconds. Holzhauser scored over 50 points for the Cubs also finishing 3rd in the 200 Fly (2:11.37), 4th in the 200 IM (2:11.50), and helping SRJC to top five finishes in 4 of their relays. 

Other highlights included sophomore Ruby Gonzalez's three top 8 finishes including: a 3rd in the 200 Back (2:08.30), a 5th in the 200 Free (1:58.80), and a 7th in the 50 Free (24.80). Freshman distance swimmer Stella Clarkson pulled off a brutal double on the final day of the meet taking 5th in the 1650 Free (18:43.50) and 8th in the 200 Fly (2:23.26). Clarkson also took 10th in the 500 Free (5:28.28).  Sophomore Ashley Simmons had two top five finishes in both the breaststroke events going (1:09.30) in the 100 and (2:31.96) in the 200. And sophomore diver Emily Nightingale took 11th (169.20pts) and 16th (141.90pts) on the 1M and 3M boards posting personal bests on each. 

The Cubs also demonstrated a strong overall team effort in the relays as well finishing:

  • 4th in the 400 Medley (4:07.92) - Gonzalez, Simmons, Clarkson, Holzhauser
  • 5th in the 200 Medley (1:53.06) - Gonzalez, Simmons, Holzhauser, Joy Parker
  • 5th in the 800 Free (8:12.83) - Holzhauser, Clarkson, Simmons, Gonzalez
  • 5th in the 400 Free (3:44.97) - Gonzalez, Holzhauser, Simmons, Parker
