On day two of the CCSF Golden Gate Classic, the Bear Cubs (8-2) played against the Cougars (6-9) of Los Angeles Southwest College. Jordan Washington scored the first four points of the game on a 2-footer off of Kaia Eubanks' assist and a putback. Kelis Jones' 3-pointer and Emaya Trajan's steal and layup at the 7:08 mark put the Cougars ahead 5-4. Washington tied the score with one free throw, and her 2-footer off of another assist from Eubanks the next time down put the Bear Cubs back in front. Lluvaster Hernandez tied the score with an 18-footer. Washington banked in a fast break layup after catching Abby Tacla's long pass to break the tie again. Jones was fouled on a shot from beyond the arc and made all three free throws with 4:48 on the clock. The Bear Cubs retook the lead with a 9-0 run on Eubanks' 2-footer and her 4-footer off of Hailey Webb's assists, one free throw by Webb, Washington's 8-footer, and two free throws by Sydney Martin for an 18-10 advantage with 53 seconds left. The Cougars added one free throw by Jones and Hernandez's field goal to end the period behind 13-18.
Lailah Whittle made a basket on the Cougars' first shot attempt of the second quarter. The Bear Cubs missed their first four shots before Jordan Washington's putback. Emaya Trahan tallied the next five points on one field goal and a 3-pointer at the 6:52 mark to tie the score at 20-20. The Bear Cubs responded with six unanswered points on Kaia Eubanks' baseline 8-footer, Abby Tacla's 5-foot runner, and Washington's 1-footer off of Elle Picard's assist. During the remaining four and a half minutes, Trajan drained another 3-pointer and Lluvaster Hernandez made one free throw. The Bear Cubs added five points on one free throw by Picard, Eubanks' putback and her fast break layup after catching Madyson Carson's crosscourt pass to go into halftime ahead 31-24.
To start the third quarter, Jordan Washington put back her own miss and then made one of two free throws the next time down. Lluvaster Hernandez sank the Cougars' first field goal of the period twenty-two seconds later. After Jordan Washington made two free throws, Elle Picard intercepted a pass above the Cougars' free throw line and drove all the way to bank in the layup, and Kaia Eubanks scored another fast break layup this time off of Sydney Martin's assist, Hernandez made another field goal at the 5:22 mark. The Bear Cubs outscored the Cougars 11-4 during the remainder of the quarter on Eubanks' putback, one free throw by Martin, Madyson Carson's 10-footer after stealing the ball from a Cougar who pulled down a defensive rebound, her 1-footer after catching the assist from Washington, Washington's 4-foot pullup jumper, and two free throws by Carson to stretch their lead to 51-32.
The Cougars scored the first seven points of the fourth quarter before Amanda Hart hit a 3-footer at the 7:40 mark to start an 8-0 run by the Bear Cubs that included Hart's 8-footer, one free throw by Madyson Carson, and Anabel Arcilla's 3-pointer. Emaya Trajan completed a 3-point play with 2:57 on the clock. Sixty-four seconds later Amanda Hart dropped in a 4-foot hook shot to complete the Bear Cubs' scoring. The Cougars finished up with a basket each by Lailah Whittle and Kelis Jones and one free throw by Trahan, making the Bear Cubs' margin of victory 63-47.
The five post players for the Bear Cubs scored all but nine of the team's 61 points. They took maximum advantage of their height and quickness, along with accurate passing in from the wings and to each other to build their leads throughout the game. The Bear Cubs only made 35% of their shots (24 out of 69), but they held the Cougars to 16 out of 56 (29%). Only four Cougars scored, but two reached double figures: Kelis Jones with 18 and Emaya Trahan 16.
Jordan Washington led the Bear Cubs with her eighth double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds, 9 of them offensive. Kaia Eubanks also scored in double figures with 14. Madyson Carson added 7 points, Amanda Hart 6, Elle Picard, Anabel Arcilla, and Sydney Martin 3 each, Abby Tacla 2, and Hailey Webb 1.
