Balanced Scoring, Washington’s Double-Double Lead Bear Cubs Past Cosumnes River, 64–35

​Friday night the Bear Cubs (18-5, 8-3) were in Elk Grove to play the Hawks (12-12, 4-8) of Cosumnes River College. The Bear Cubs scored the first seven points of the contest on Kaia Eubanks' 14-footer, Jordan Washington's 3-foot bank shot, and Caitlin Baldwin's 3-pointer at the 5:57 mark. Fifita Grewe made two low post baskets in a row within the next minute. The Bear Cubs finished the quarter with an 8-0 run comprised of Baldwin's 3-pointer, a 1-footer by Washington off of Eubanks' assist, and three out of four free throws by Washington for a 15-4 advantage.

​Daniela Campos drew a shooting foul 58 seconds into the second quarter and made just one free throw. Sydney Martin scored the next five points on a 3-pointer and two free throws at the 7:14 mark. Eighteen seconds later Aletha Singleton made her first field goal of the game. A little over a minute after that Amanda Hart hit a 16-footer followed by Caitlin Baldwin's 3-pointer. Singleton sank two free throws, and Jordan Washington one out of two. Washington's 3-point play on a 1-footer off of Elle Picard's assist completed the Bear Cubs' scoring with 3:31 on the clock for a 29-9 lead. The Hawks added three field goals in the remaining time, including two by Singleton, to cut their halftime deficit to 15-29.

​Jasmine Hearn swished a 3-pointer to start the scoring in the third quarter. The Bear Cubs put together an 8-0 run on Kaia Eubanks' putback, Abby Tacla's 3-point play on a drive, Eubanks' 1-footer off of Elle Picard's assist, and one free throw by Jordan Washington at the 6:01 mark to widen their lead to 37-18. Aletha Singleton and Fifita Grewe each made a field goal in the next minute. The Bear Cubs responded with 12 unanswered points on Caitlin Baldwin'sfourth 3-pointer, Shasta Vlasak's drive from the left wing down the middle of the key, two free throws by Hailey Webb, Washington's putback, and Picard's 3-pointer for a 49-22 lead with 1:30 on the clock. Fifteen seconds later Ariel Bailey swished a 3-pointer. The Bear Cubs added five more points on Amanda Hart's 1-footer off of Webb's assist, one free throw by Shasta Vlasak, and her layup at the end of Webb's pass to make the Bear Cubs' lead 54-25 by the end of the quarter.

​The Bear Cubs scored the first four points of the fourth quarter on Kaia Eubanks' 1-footer after cutting to the hoop and catching Madyson Carson's pass, and Carson's 1-footer on a cut to the basket and Eubanks' assist. Aletha Singleton made a basket with 8:00 on the clock. The Bear Cubs tallied six more points on Hattie Piper's floater from just below the free throw line, Carson's putback, and Sydney Martin's fast break layup without dribbling after catching Elle Picard's pass for a 64-27 advantage with 3:00 left. The Hawks finished the game with two layups in a row off of steals, Ariel Bailey's 3-pointer, and one free throw by Peyton Thorpe, making the final score 64-35.

​The Hawks were missing two of their top scorers due to injury and illness. The Bear Cubs' defense held the Hawks to 14 out of 64 shots (22%). The Bear Cubs made 23 out of 54 shots (43%). In the third quarter the Bear Cubs scored 25 points on 9 out of 15 shots (60%). Aletha Singleton, who scored 14 points, was the only Hawk to reach double figures.

Jordan Washington registered her fourteenth double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Caitlin Baldwin made four 3-pointers to tie her career-high of 12 points. Kaia Eubanks added 8 points, Sydney Martin 7, Shasta Vlasak 5, Madyson Carson and Amanda Hart 4 each, Elle Picard and Abby Tacla 3 each, Hailey Webb and Hattie Piper 2 each. Elle Picard passed for 6 assists and made 3 steals.
