The SRJC volleyball team opened the season, hosting a double header with College of the Redwoods and Yuba College.
The first match of the season was a successful one for the Bear Cubs, as they defeated College of the Redwoods 25-19, 25-17 and 25-18. The Bear Cubs took the lead early and cruised to victory, with a stellar team performance. Leading scorers were freshman outside hitter, Sofia Lopez, who led the team with 8 kills and no errors on 19 attempts and sophomore setter, Kaleigh Weiand, who notched another 6 kills and an impressive 27 assists. Freshman outside hitter, Cassie McKnight, also pitched in with 8 kills.
The second match of the season resembled the first, as the Bear Cubs cruised to a three set victory over the Yuba College 49er's, 25-12, 25-11, and 25-12. Sofia Lopez led with a commanding 10 kills, while Lilah Bacon, Cassie McKnight and Emma Weiand notched 6 apiece. Freshman libero, Daya Mosqueda, led the defensive effort with 19 digs.
Overall, it was a great start to the 2022 season with great performances by both returners and freshman alike. The Bear Cubs will host both Butte College and College of the Marin next Saturday, September 3rd.
