Juan Arias enters his 2nd season as an Assistant coach with the Lady Bear Cubs soccer team and brings with him over 3 decades of playing and coaching experience. In addition to coaching, Juan has been working with SRJC since 2008 in a variety of student success programs. When he is not on the pitch, Coach Juan devotes his time to working with and motivating high school and college students to achieve academic success, which is also a valuable benefit for the players in the Women's program.
Coach Juan is originally from Mexico City, and just like millions of kids around the world, Juan started playing soccer on the streets at a young age and didn't play organized soccer until high school. Coach Juan is a former student-athlete (soccer & tennis) who played at Napa Valley College & Sonoma State University. One of his highlights as a college player was being selected to play for the U-21 Northern California State team in 1992 that went on to compete at a National tournament in Las Vegas. After he graduated from Sonoma State University he continued playing throught Northern California while also coaching youth team throghout the Bay Area but mostly in Sonoma County.
Coach Juan graduated from Sonoma State University with a B.A. in Business Managment and also completed his Master's degree in Education & Leadership from Concordia University. For Juan, education is one of the most important foundations any person can have. Coach Juan and his wife, Misti, have two daughters, Lyla and Elisa.
