The Bear Cub Wrestling Team traveled to Modesto Junior College on 10/19 and came home with the 3rd place team trophy after defeating the #4 team in the state, Modesto, for the consolation finals match. After starting the tournament with a strong 41-12 win over Chabot College, SRJC lost to the #1 ranked Fresno City College. Next for the Bear Cubs was a rematch from 10/16 against Sierra College. The Bear Cubs started strong and never looked back, again, winning big 50-6. In the final match of the afternoon, SRJC faced the #4 team in the state, Modesto Junior College. All 10 matches were wrestled tough with every Cub contributing. Derek Ruffin (125) gave the team energy from the start with a 9 second fall, Ali Hamzia (141) earned a forfeit, and Tito Rodarte (149) defeated Ezra Duenas 16-9. With the Bear Cubs down 15-17 going into the 184lb match, Jesus Anguiano came up big defeating the #4 ranked wrestler in the state Adrian Pulido 10-6, putting SRJC back in front 18-17. Rayhan Jaleel (197) sealed the team win with a six point addition putting the score out of reach for Modesto going into the final match 24-17. After Modesto won at the 285lb match, they lost one team point for unsportsmanlike conduct. The final team score concluded at 24-22. SRJC's record is now 8-1. Next up for the Bear Cubs is 10/23 for a conference dual at Shasta College.
