The SRJC Men's and Women's Cross Country team concluded their season at the State Meet in Fresno. The 2023 Cross Country season was a learning experience for the relatively young team.
The men had a decent season finishing 4th in the Big 8 and 13th in Northern California. The squad consisted of four Sophomores and four Freshmen. Standout Freshmen was Bryce Ward who had a season best of 16:55 in the 5k. The Men did not qualify for the State Championships. Individual Standout was Max Hidalgo who finished 5th at the Big 8 Conference Championships with a season best of 20:59.6 over the 4 Mile race. Hidalgo Qualified as an individual for the State Championship, where he finished 71st with a time of 21:58.
The Women finished the season as Back to Back Big 8 Conference Champions. The team of Alexandra Van Holt, Elisa Quintero Cantu, Madi Monroe, Kayla Carreno, Addie Waterman, and Olivia Youngblood ran an average team time of 21:48 for a team score of 44 points. Tying Diablo Valley College but winning out of the tie breaker down to the 5th place finisher. The women would go on to finish 6th in Northern California and qualify for the State Championships. The women finished the season at 20th in the State. Alexandra Van Holt was the individual standout with a season best of 19:17 in the 5k at the Chabot Twilight. Freshmen standout was Kayla Carreno who had a season best of 22:58 in the 5k at the Big 8 Championships.
