In their 3rd meet of the season, the Bear Cubs hosted the 12th annual Pat Ryan Invitational with great weather and 12 teams in attendance at Spring Lake. The men finished 3rd among some of the top teams in the north, bested by De Anza and Modesto by a slim margin of 12 points. Leading the way was Brandon Escandon, finishing 9th, with a time of 22:15.7. Right behind Brandon was Zach Nussdorfer with a time of 22:16.2. Jeffrey Marin came in 13th with a time of 22:28.7, followed by Evan Drake (22:37.8) and Devan Becker (22:49.2), finishing 16th and 17th respectively. Brian Padilla finished 19th at 22:55.9 and rounding out the top seven was Joshua Palmgren (23:04.6) in 25th place out of 73 runners.
The Bear Cubs ran without fear against a really tough field and showed that they are going to be a team to contend with heading toward conference. Modesto took 1st place in the team rankings with a score of 53. Second place went to De Anza (59), which was a mere 6 points off of the winner. Santa Rosa's (65) 3rd place finish was followed by Diablo Valley with 70 points and Redwoods with 144, to round out the top 5 teams. San Juaquin Delta (161) was in 6th, Sacramento (186) was in 7th and San Francisco City (201) in 8th place overall.
The Bear Cubs will be competing back at Spring Lake at the Sonoma State Invitational on Saturday, Oct 1, 2016.
