SRJC was the only team to get on the podium on both the men's and women's side at the CCCAA State Championship Meet in May.

The SRJC Swim & Dive teams successfully competed in the CCCAA State Championships in May, at East LA College in Monterey Park. After finishing just shy of the podium in 2013, SRJC's women were in a dog-fight of a battle for the title with conference rivals Diablo Valley and Sierra as well as with socal powerhouses Orange Coast and Golden West. They finished 3rd overall and were only 50 points away from what would have been the school's seventh team title. Highlights included Miranda Howell becoming a two-time individual state champion in both the 50 Back (26.21) and the 100 Back (56.48). Both those times broke the conference and school records she had set just two weeks prior at the Big 8 Championships. She also finished 3rd in the 50 Fly. Other Bear Cub top 8 finalists included: Christine Lewis (500 Free, 50 Breast, 100 Breast); Ashley Boyle (100 IM, 50 Back, 100 Free); Kristine Schmidt (1M, 3M diving); Erin Sullivan (200 IM); Logan Williams (3M); Michelle Spratt (1650 Free) and Allison Straus (100 Fly). The women's relays placed: 4th in 200 Free, 3rd 400 Medley, 2nd 800 Free, and 12th in the 400 Free. In 2013 the men's team finished outside of the top 5 for the first time since 2003, but they entered the state meet looking good to finish fourth or fifth overall. However, the small but mighty team of nine swimmers out-performed much larger teams and finished 3rd overall to get SRJC back on the podium in 2014. The highlight of the meet was sophomore John Bing winning the 50 Free in a time of 20.62. Bing also finished 3rd in the 100 Breast and 11th in the 200 Breast. His lead-off leg on the 400 Free Relay, set a new school record in the 100 Free with a time of 45.35. The men's relays finished 11th (200 Free), 6th (400 Free), 4th (800 Free), 2nd (200 Medley), and 2nd in the 400 Medley finishing just .10 behind Mt. Sac for the relay state title. It was a crazy race!  Sophomore Andrew Hayes had three top eight finishes in the 200 IM (4th), 100 Fly (5th), and the 200 Back (3rd). He broke both of his 2013 school records set in the 200 IM and 200 Back, going 1:51.42 and 1:51.52 respectively. Other SRJC top eight finalists included: Ben Crabb (100 Back and 200 Back); Clark Hale (1650 Free); and Stephen Mackanic (200 Back). Congratulations to the 21 Bear Cub men and women who represented SRJC very well at the state finals.
