Helping the community and mentoring the youth of Sonoma County is important to SRJC Football. The team has spent many days mentoring and interacting with kids from James Monroe Elementary School in the past few years.
Read Across America
Read Across America is an annual reading program that encourages children to read. In early 2020, the team went to JMES to talk to the children about the importance of reading, and players read books to the children. In 2023, players from the team returned to carry on the traditions of the Read Across America program.
After School Basketball
SRJC Football players have also mentored JMES students by assisting with the after-school basketball teams, where players taught the children life lessons through sports.
Field Day
Field Day was another opportunity for the athletes to assist the children in athletic activities and help build their confidence.
Ruby Bridges Walk to School
In 2023, members of the football team participated in the annual Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day with JMES students to commemorate Ruby's courage.
