Bear Cubs Walkoff Napa Valley 2-1

Bear Cubs Walkoff Napa Valley 2-1

On Saturday, the Bear Cubs (12-6) hosted the Napa Valley Storm (1-14) in the final non-conference game of the season. Eli Yamanaka got the start for the Bear Cubs, throwing a three-up, three-down opening frame. Santa Rosa jumped out to an early lead with an RBI double by Zane Bennett in the bottom of the second. After the second inning, offense was hard to come by for both teams. After three scoreless innings of work, Russell Freedheim relieved Yamanaka. Freedheim went on to throw three scoreless innings in relief. Christian Schiavo took over on the mound in the seventh and got into trouble. With two runners on and two outs, Luke Dillon entered and struck out the batter, ending the frame. With the Bear Cub offense continuing to stall, Napa Valley tied the game in the eighth inning. The game went to extra innings tied 1-1. Since it was a non-conference game, each team had an automatic runner at second base. Jake McCoy took over for Dillon and shut the storm down. In the bottom half, Santa Rosa had runners on the corners with one out when McCoy helped his own cause by singling home Tyler Nordyke, giving the Bear Cubs a 2-1 walkoff win.
