Bear Cubs come out strong but fall to Sierra

The Bear Cubs came out a strong collective unit on Wednesday facing the visiting Sierra Wolverines. The Bear Cubs dominated the pool in the first quarter scoring three goals, two from Annika Erikson and one from Raquel Castro to Sierra's one. In the middle of the second quarter, Sierra would gain momentum and score nine goals to the Bear Cub's four. Bear Cub goals came from Annika Erikson, and one goal from Logan Amadon. Sierra's goals would come from Carissa Johnson, Elise Welch, Rebecka Robinson, Kristen DePauw, Jeanette Saldana, and Alyssa Alverez.

In the third period Sierra pressed the Bear Cubs scoring five goals to the Bear Cub two. Maggie Selzer would net the two goals for the Bear Cubs in the third, as the Bear Cubs continued to fight a hard battle in the pool.

In the fourth quarter, Sierra came out shooting and would score five more goals in the fourth, to the Bear Cub three, two from Annika Erikson and one from Maggie Selzer. Shannon Whetzel would record ten saves in the cage for the Bear Cubs and the game would end 20-12 in Sierra's favor.

The Bear Cubs will travel to Foothill College for a tournament playing against Cabrillo and Merced on Friday October 14th. Saturday, October 15th they will face West Valley and Ohlone.
