Hard Fought Victory: Exciting Golden Goal Overtime Win for Bear Cubs

Santa Rosa Junior College claimed an exciting golden-goal overtime win against long time coast conference rival, College of San Mateo. The second game of the Owl Classic Foothill Tournament was a battle from the start, with both teams trading goals, and a 3-3 tie at the end of the first quarter. The second period was a defensive battle with only one goal scored by CSM to take the lead going into half time. The Pirates continued to increase the lead throughout the third quarter scoring two goals to every one of SRJCs.

By the fourth quarter, the Bear Cubs came back with a ferocious three goals to tie the game 9-9 and send it into overtime. Bear Cubs freshman, Zoe Feldman, made the first strike in overtime with a goal which was followed by two CSM goals. In a power play with under two minutes, SRJCs Raquel Castro found the back of the net to tie the score once again. The Bear Cub defense held strong with Haleigh Ahlborn in the cage to send the game into sudden-death overtime 11-11.

In sudden death overtime, the Bear Cubs took control and secured the first offensive possession with sophomore, Dulcie Manchenton winning the sprint. One chance at offense is all the Bear Cubs needed. Late in the shot clock,  the Pirates defense left SRJC's, leading scorer Manchenton open and with in firing range. She found the corner of the goal out of reach of the CSM goalie with a sniper shot to instantly win the game for SRJC 12-11.

Goal scorers for the Bear Cubs: Manchenton (6), Castro (3), Feldman (1), Amadon (1), and Senn (1).  Goalie Ahlborn had 6 saves and 1 steal in the victory.
