The SRJC volleyball season came to an end the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, in the first round of Regionals. The Bear Cubs had an exciting season with a 20-9 record overall, and a 9-5 record in conference. During Big 8 Conference play, the SRJC had many thrilling victories at home including defeating second place finisher Sierra College, as well as third place finisher American River College. However, on the road, SRJC came up short on the scoreboard which led to their fourth place finish in conference.
During their final conference match, the Bear Cubs faced Sacramento City College at home during the team's sophomore night, and it was this inspiration that ignited SRJC to dominate the Panthers. This win led SRJC to the team's first home playoff match in three years, which was an exciting time for the group. However, this also gave the Bear Cubs an eighth place seed in the north, and Sac City a ninth place seed meaning the teams would face off again in the first round. Ultimately SRJC fell shy of victory in this rematch which concluded the season for the team.
Overall the Bear Cubs had an awesome season that was filled with great learning moments as well as significant victories. Three players were honored for their noteworthy contributions to the program including freshman libero, You Nara who was named First Team All-Conference, as well as sophomore setter, Emily Bonfigli and sophomore middle blocker, Tori Garzoli who were named Second Team All-Conference. These ladies, along with their teammates and seven sophomores, helped take the Bear Cubs to a top twenty finish in the state and a top ten finish in the north. The team now looks forward to rebuilding and working hard in the off-season for next year.
