Women's Swim & Dive Are The 2015 Big 8 Champions!

Women's Swim & Dive Are The 2015 Big 8 Champions!

The SRJC Bear Cubs are the 2015 Big 8 Conference Champions!

In a historic year, where the women had the opportunity to swim the 400 IM, 200 Back, 200 Breast, and 200 Butterfly for the first time in community college history, the SRJC women won 3/4 of these new events, setting original Big 8 Conference records in each:

Howell and Lewis also won the 100 Back and 100 Breast events respectively, and Celine Sargis was the Big 8 Champion in the 200 IM and took 2nd in the 200 Fly and 400 IM as well. Sophomore diver Logan Williams also finished 1st on both the 1M and 3M boards.  The relay team of Howell, Sargis, Megan Warren, and Lewis also won the 200 Medley and 400 Free Relays.

Howell's record setting performance in the 200 Back was awarded the "Outstanding Swim of the Meet Award", Logan Williams was named Big 8 Diver of the Year, and Head Coach Jill McCormick was named Big 8 Women's Coach of the Year.

The Bear Cubs had strong performances with every single member of their 18 team roster contributing points to the overall team score.  As a result they were able to defend their 2014 conference title and get past last season's state champions, Diablo Valley College.

The Bear Cubs are now on a quest for SRJC's 7th Women's Swim & Dive State Title after qualifying 11 members of their team to represent SRJC at the CCCAA State Championship which will be held at East LA College next week.  Competition begins on Thursday, April 30th at 9:30am.
