Last Friday the Bear Cubs faced The Big 8's new addition, Folsom Lake College. The match had equal opportunity from both sides as both teams came out ready to go. The match-up was a great look at the competition the Bear Cubs will face in the Big 8 conference this year. In the first half, Folsom Lake had chances from Karina Torres and Hannah O'Donnell, but the Bear Cubs Goalkeeper Ali Miller shut down the forwards strong shot attempts. Santa Rosa had first half shot attempts from Amanda Galbraith and Gabbi Lemos. Who then connected with each other to give the Bear Cubs the lead forty-two minutes into the first half. Gabbi Lemos sent a through ball to Galbraith who then dribbled three Folsom Lake defenders to slip the ball past Folsom's Goal keeper Aubrey Hall, as the Bear Cubs went up 1-0.
The second half both teams came out strong as Folsom Lake had a chance to tie from shot attempts by Karina Torres and Britney Johnson. Bear Cub Pricilla Villalobos beat Folsom's Hall on her left side only to have the ball hit the post for a close chance at a second half goal. In the eighty-eighth minute Folsom had one last chance on a corner attempt but the Bear Cub defense lead by Nikki Elliot, Lexi Martinez, Shelly Marmaduke, and Amanda Neidlinger cleared the ball and sealed the game for the Bear Cubs.
The Bear Cubs will travel to Cosumnes on Tuesday September 20th and then face Delta at home on September 23rd at 1:30pm.
