After a long morning of rain, the Bear Cubs shined in their win over Modesto JC who entered the match 15-0-1 and ranked #2 in the region. Santa Rosa's Taylor Halstenson (pictured), scored the game winner in the 14th minute, assisted by Bear Cub captain Chelsea Frostick. The Bear Cubs came out determined to get a win, dominating possession through the first half. Frostick played a lofted ball from near half line to an open Halstenson making a diagonal run to goal through two Modesto defenders. Halstenson collected the ball, took one touch to create an angle on goal, and fired the ball into the side netting.

The Pirates entered the second half with energy, posting 5 shots on goal. Freshman goalkeeper, Morgan Jernigan, made several saves to keep the Bear Cubs in the lead. With 10 minutes to go in the match, Modesto's striker sent in a shot from distance that Jernigan just narrowly tipped over the goal for the save of the game.

"It was a hard fought game from both teams. Modesto has a quality team and great effort. We played well and Taylor finished an excellent opportunity. I'm very, very proud of this team. This win gives us momentum finishing out the remaining three games in conference play before playoffs," said Coach Hamm.

Halstenson also had a goal and an assist in Tuesday's 4-1 win over San Joaquin Delta.
