Bear Cub wrestlers finish in the top 8 with three medalists at the State Finals

The Bear Cubs finished the 2015 season strong with six state qualifiers and three state medalists. SRJC scored 43.5 points and finished 8th in the State Championships. SRJC had six pins in the State Tournament to earn 12 bonus points!

Jhayln Hall (184 lbs.) finished second in the state and earned All American honors! Fred Duerr (197 lbs.) was 3-2 and finished 5th. Duerr earned the award for most pins (three falls in 10:44) in the least time at the state championships! Tyler Poalillo was 3-2 and finished 7th at 125 pounds.

The Bear Cubs as a team were 8-4 in duals and their tournament record was 5th of 9 teams at Sac City, 7th of 17 at West Hills, 6th of 11 at Modesto, 3rd in he Northern California Duals, 1st in the Coast Conference, 3rd in the Northern California Regionals, and 8th at the State Championships. 

Top performers on the season for the Bear Cubs were as follows:

125 lbs.-Tyler Poalillo finished 18-17 with 13 pins. Paolillo wrestled most of the season at 133 and above. He was 4th at Sac City, 5th at Modesto, and 2nd in the Coast Conference all at 133 lbs. Paolillo dropped to 125 lbs and placed 4th in the North Regional and 7th at the State Championships. Paolillo tied with Hall for second in most pins on the season at 13 pins.

141lbs.-Robert Smith was 18-16 with 7 pins. Smith finished 3rd in the Coast Conference, 5th in the North Regional, and was a state qualifier.

165 lbs.-Kyle Wescott was the Coast Conference Champion and 8th in the North Regional.

174 lbs.-Taryn Christiansen was 21-7 with 14 pins. He tied with Duerr for most pins on the season with 14 falls. Christiansen was 1st at Sac City at 184. He dropped to 174 lbs. and was 3rd at Modesto, 2nd in the Coast Conference, 5th in the North Regional and a state qualifier. Christiansen was a co-MVP for the Bear Cubs

184 lbs.-Jhaylyn Hall was 21-6 with 13 pins. His season pin total tied for 2nd on the team with Poalillo. Hall had the fastest fall of the season with a pin in just 0:24 seconds. Hall was injured (broken nose) in his first match at at Sac City. He came back and finished 4th at West Hills, 1st in the Coast Conference, 1st in the North Regional and was runner-up in the State Championships where he earned All American Honors! Hall was co-MVP for the Bear Cubs.

197 lbs.-Fred Duerr was 23-6 with 14 pins. Duerr had the most wins and tied with Christiansen for most pins on the season with 14 falls. Duerr was 1st at Sac City, 3rd at West Hills, 2nd in the Coast Conference, 3rd in the North Regional and 5th at the State Championships. Duerr won the Most Falls in Least Time Award (3 pins in 10:44) at the State Championship Tournament. Duerr was the Team Captain and co-MVP for the Bear Cubs and a two time Academic All American!

285 lbs.-Quintton Bowlds went 15-14 with 5 pins. Bowlds was third in the Coast Conference, 5th in the North Regional and a state qualifier. Bowlds is a two time Academic All American!
