Wrestling ranked 8th in the state midway through the season

SRJC wrestling is now 3-1 in duals and 1-1 in the Coast Conference. The Bear Cubs have finished 5th of 9 teams at the Sac City Tournament, 7th of 17 at the West Hills Tournament and 6th of 11 at Modesto.

The Bear Cubs are currently ranked 8th in the state. Individuals in the state rankings include: Kevin Walther (Terra Linda HS, freshman) at 133 lbs., honorable mention.-Walther finished fourth at Modesto. Tyler Poalillo (Spanish Springs HS, Reno NV freshman) is an honorable mention at 133 lbs. Poalillo finished 5th at Modesto and 4th at Sac City. Poalillo leads the team in pins with 8 falls to date. Robert Smith (sophomore, San Marin HS) was a state qualifier for the Bear Cubs as a freshman and is an honorable mention in the current state rankings at 133 lbs. Taryn Christiansen (El Molino, sophomore) is ranked 6th at 174lbs. Christiansen was 1st at Sac City at 184 lbs. and 3rd at Modesto at 174 lbs. Christiansen has a season to date record of 9-1 with 7 pins and has the team's fastest pin this season with a 0:30 second fall over Juarez of Modesto. Jhaylyn Hall (Montgomery HS, red shirt freshman) is ranked 7th in state at 184 lbs. Hall finish 4th at West Hills. Fred Duerr (Montgomery HS, sophomore) is the team captain and leads SRJC with an 11-1 record with 7 pins. Duerr finished 1st at Sac City and 3rd at West Hills. Duerr finished 8th in state last year and he is currently ranked 4th in state at 197 lbs. Paris Henry (freshman, Windsor HS) is 11-7 on the season and finished 4th at Modesto. Henry is an honorable mention at 197 lbs. Quintton Bowlds (Willits HS, sophomore) is the team co-captain and an honorable mention in the state rankings at 285 pounds.

SRJC will host the Northern California Regional Tournament on Saturday, December 5th in Haehl Pavilion. The top six placers will qualify for the CCCAA State Championships at Fresno City College on Friday and Saturday, December 11th and 12th. Go Bear Cubs!
