SRJC men's water polo captured a victory in their season opener against Cabrillo College this past weekend, 13-9. The Cubs were led by team co-captain, sophomore Cole Morris who scored 5 goals, drew 3 ejections, and had 2 steals. Freshman standout, Ben Gradus added to the team offense with 3 goals, 3 assists, and 1 ejection drawn as well. Other scorers incldued freshmen Ben Binder (1), Silas Strauss (2), and sophomores Enrique Jimenez (1) and Sebastian King-Gile (1). Chris Miller drew 4 ejections and goalie Braden Land had 9 saves and 2 assists from the cage.
Following the Cabrillo game, the Cubs lost a close one to Ohlone 12-14. Key offensive performances came from Morris and Gradus with 4 goals each. Jimenez led on both sides of the ball with 3 goals, an assist, a steal, an ejection drawn, and a field block; and co-captiain King-Gile had a goal, an assist, a steal, an ejection drawn, and a field block also. Land had 14 saves against Ohlone as well.
SRJC, 1-1, will continue their season at a four-game tournament this weekend at Delta College, in Stockton, September 13-14.
