Men's Soccer Season Recap

The Santa Rosa Junior College Men's Soccer team scheduled the most competitive games available in California this past season. It can be a gamble, but this creates a very competitive practice environment, keeps everyone sharp and development is fast. We managed to stay unbeaten for all but one game. We dominated our Conference and became Big 8 Conference Champions with an unbeaten record.

On August 30th, the Men's Soccer Team traveled to beautiful Lake Tahoe for a 3-day trip. We spent quality time together as a team and revisited team goals and built fellowship. Unfortunately, the season was interrupted for the third consecutive year because of the devastating wild fires in Sonoma County, causing poor air quality and disrupting our practice schedule. While this was a disruption it makes you appreciate the opportunity to compete and belong to something special like a collegiate team. The team was flexible and never complained during this difficult time and we did the best we could to prepare for our conference games having to train elsewhere to avoid the poor air quality and managing to take advantage of indoor facilities.

We finished the season as the number one seed in Northern California. We hosted our first round playoff game against Napa Valley College. We had a comfortable 4-0 victory, progressed to the next round, and hosted San Francisco City College. Our team had a great game despite the poor weather conditions and we won 3-1. Heading into round three of the playoffs, we hosted Foothill College and competed in the cold weather and rain. We lost 2-1 in a game we thought we had control of. Our players gave it their 100%. We ended the season ranked fifth in California.

I will remember this team as an eager group of coachable young men. The team is graduating 5 sophomores and 5 are planning to continue playing soccer. We are returning a strong freshmen class and excited for the 2020 season.

Men's Soccer is honored and grateful for the ongoing support of SRJC administrators, faculty and staff, as well as the enduring support of local businesses and the larger community.
