Men's Soccer 2016 Season Preview

Men's Soccer 2016 Season Preview

In 2015 the Santa Rosa JC Men's Soccer Program won the Big Eight Conference Championship, with a record of 7-0-1, and advanced to the 2nd round of post season before bowing out in a hard fought 3-2 loss to Final Four team Lake Tahoe CC. The Bear Cubs finished the season ranked #16 nationally, but with a young squad they began planning their 2016 campaign early in the year aiming to accomplish more this season.

Now that the dust had settled and rosters have been set, the Bear Cubs take on a different look than one might have expected earlier this summer. Through injury and players not returning, Coach Kinahan will rely on the three players with the most experience, Wilson Briggs, Chris Ochoa and Darian Huerta to anchor a newly formed squad to carry on a tradition of excellence for Santa Rosa Junior College Men's Soccer.

With a history of high work rate, a demand for excellence, success, and an expectation for young players to develop and contribute, one would expect this team improve as the season evolves and be dangerous in any match they play. The Bear Cubs open the season Saturday August 26th at Pre Season #2 nationally ranked and defending State Champions Oxnard College. Before opening up Big Eight Conference play the Bear Cubs will play six matches against six teams that all participated in post season in 2015 and perennially are some of the best teams in the state of California. Kickoff is slated for noon vs. Oxnard.
