Bear Cubs Sweep Sierra, Now Enter Post-Season

Bear Cubs finished up their last regular season series last week with another sweep over Sierra College. Bear Cubs played stellar baseball, combining dominate pitching, flawless defense, and quality hitting. Tuesday's 10-1 victory displayed 16 hits from the Bear Cubs. Jake Hedrick and Zach Hall (pictured) each collected 4 hits. Alec Rennard had another quality start, going 8 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits, and striking out 6. Thursday's 8-2 win on the road at Sierra College was controlled by Kyle Mitchell, who went 8 innings allowing 2 runs on 9 hits with 5 strikeouts. Bear Cubs top hitters were Ryan Haug who went 2-4 with 3 runs, a RBI and a 2B, Jake Scheiner went 2-3 with 3 RBIs and a run, Weston Bryan had 2 RBIs and a 2B. Thursday's game was a nail bitter. Sierra College tied the game at 1 in the 7th inning. The Bear Cubs in the bottom of the 9th, with 2 out's and 2 strikes, won in walk-off fashion when Jake Hedrick singled to left, scoring Jake Scheiner, who led the inning off with a walk, from 2nd base.

The Bear Cubs finished 26-10 on the season, and 15-6 in Big 8 Conference play. They head into playoffs as the #4 seed, opening up first round against #13 Butte College. First pitch of the best-of-three game series is set for 2:00pm Friday May 1st at Cook Sypher Field. Game 2 is set for 11:00 am Saturday May 2nd. Game 3(if necessary) is 30 minutes following Game 2 on Saturday. Playoff ticket prices are $10 for general admission, and $7 for students, seniors, and children.
