Sophomore Night at Cosumnes River

Sophomore Night at Cosumnes River

CRC Hawks (9-18, 3-12) vs. #9 Santa Rosa Junior College (20-7, 12-3)

@ Cosumnes River College

Sacramento, Calif – As most schools' tradition to give positive acknowledgment to their upperclassmen, CRC (9-18, 3-12) hosted their annual Sophomore Night on a special evening. This was the Hawks' season finale, playing in front of the home crowd, streamed live on NorCal Sports TV for all to watch, and they were looking to spoil the conference championship hopes of #9 Santa Rosa (20-7, 12-3).

Last year, the Hawks upset the defending Big8 champions SRJC on Clark Court 75-72 in overtime. Tonight, CRC was searching for another inspired performance.

Initially, SRJC started the game on a 13-3 stretch, but after that, the Hawks woke up. CRC opened up a steady 16-7 run that included two 3-point shots from Adam Orr (17pts/7rbs) and one three from Andre Huddleston (12pts, 3rbs, 3ast). This cut the deficit to 20-19 SRJC. That stretch ignited the confidence of Cosumnes River. Tenacious defense and balanced scoring helped build the Hawks largest lead of the game at 40-32 with just over three minutes left before intermission. They finished a strong half against Santa Rosa and eventually took a 45-41 lead into the locker room.

Forward Christian Hough had a solid game tonight by leading the team with 23 points and strong defense against taller SRJC players. Alex Huber, who always plays physical and competes like a big man, had a near double-double with 8 points and 9 rebounds. Kenneth Cooley, who has been a key contributor late in the season, continued to mark up the statbook with 14 points and 6 rebounds.

Contributions from everyone was paramount in the ability to win the season finale. With many lead changes in the second half, it was anyone's game to take. In the closing moments, SRJC hit a three to take a 4-point lead. In the end, Santa Rosa took the victory 80-79.
