Can Our SRJC Student-Athletes Build the World's Largest Soap Bubble?

Bailey Field, Sunday May 3, Noon-3:30pm

EVENT DESCRIPTION:

  • A representative from each of the participating SRJC athletic teams and clubs will compete against each other to create the largest soap bubble.
  • If the team/club is COED, the team/club can have two representatives.
  • Each athlete will be wearing their team uniform.
  • After the contest, the athletes will invite the spectators to come down to the field to be trained to build world-class bubbles for themselves

PRACTICE TIMES:

  • Although no practice is necessary to compete on May 3, opportunity to practice making world-class bubbles will take place every Thursday
  • noon -1:30pm on the lawn in front of the library.

  • This project is sponsored by The SRJC's Department of Kinesiology, Athletics, and Dance as a commitment to promote science and math not only to its athletes, but to the community as a whole.

THE 2015 BUBBLE COMPETITION DESCRIPTION:

  • The event will be similar to that of a dog show where the spectators can watch as long (or as short) as they want.
  • A single representative from each of the participating SRJC athletic teams and clubs will compete against each other to create the largest bubble.
  • If the team/club is coed, a male and a female can be represented.
  • Each athlete will be wearing their team uniform.
  • Each contestant will use a standardized bubble solution (which is totally biodegradable and harmless to grass and animals) and a standardized bubble wand.
  • Each contestant will have one warm-up bubble and then be judged on their next three bubbles.
  • Bubble size will be measure in meters (which is slightly longer than a yard).
  • There will be a single Judge (with assistants if he/she wishes) who has full discretion to change the rules at any time during the contest.
  • The winner gets the "2015 Bubble Grand Champion" Title.
  • After the contest, the spectators will be invited to learn to build world-class bubbles from our athlete-contestants.

NOTE: We will be able to build the world's largest soap bubble IF WE CAN DEVELOP AN ACCURATE METHOD TO DETERMINE THE SIZE OF BUBBLE FROM 10 METERS (33 FEET) AWAY.
